DescriptionThis factsheet focuses on increase of women's participation in the labour market and decrease of pay and earnings gaps. Statistics show that women's labour participation is lower than men's in all EU countries. Working women tend to work fewer hours, work in lower-paying sectors and occupy lower-ranking positions than men, resulting in gender pay and earnings gaps. These differences are to some extent due to traditional gender roles, but also due to economic incentives. The factsheet reviews the performance in EU countries concerning female labour participation and the gender pay and earnings gaps, discusses the available evidence on potential policies to effectively address these gaps and describes good policy practices.
