- Description
- 'In this final policy package a wide range of experts from civil society, policy, research and employers develop a much deeper understanding for the challenges in reconciling work and family life and to showcase different practices, which were used as inspiration for drawing up concrete policy recommendations. In the last few years, there has been a growing demand for policies that support the achievement of the targets on gender equality, closing the gender and pension pay gap, women’s participation in decision making, the Barcelona targets for early childhood education and care, and a better reconciliation between work and family life. In the context of the EU 2020 Strategy, whilst not framed as a headline target, reconciliation measures have nevertheless been recognised at EU level as important means of achieving major policy objectives.'

- Description
- This report provides an analysis of gender differences in Viet Nam in the context of the economic transition to a market economy. It analyses data taken from the 1997-98 Viet Nam Living Standards Survey in the light of gender inequalities in household structures, living standards, income, education and health and poverty. The report concludes that there is a need for policy measures to address social norms and economic disparities between men and women particularly in the case of rural women. Gender-specific interventions are required which take into account the decisions that women and men make around the demand and supply of goods and services in the context of specific market and employment conditions. Such interventions include the balance of taxation, policies around direct provision of goods and services and income transfer. Policies should not be directed at households without acknowledging the 'hidden' gender inequalities within households and data is therefore needed on intra-household resource allocation and how it relates to income generation. There is also a need for more data on different geographical contexts, ethnic minority issues, credit facilities, unemployment and domestic violence. More gender disaggregated statistics are also needed to support the national Strategy for the Advancement of Women and the dissemination of research must be prioritised
