- Description
- Knudsen put herself the question how much control women do have over their bodies and fertility-related decisions. She travelled alone when she was between 17 and 22, to visit five developing countries and two developed ones on five continents. The book examines women's access to sex education, maternity care, family planning, and abortion, and analyses how much power women in diverse contexts have to negotiate sexual practice. The book places the experiences of women within the global context of how international population control agendas have influenced women's reproductive rights in the past, and how the changing international discourse on reproductive health continues to influence those rights today.

- Description
- Murphy describes the twentieth-century rise of infrastructures of calculation and experiment aimed at governing population for the sake of national economy, pinpointing the spread of a potent biopolitical logic: some must not be born so that others might live more prosperously. Resituating the history of postcolonial neoliberal technique in expert circuits between the United States and Bangladesh, Murphy traces the methods and imaginaries through which family planning calculated lives not worth living, lives not worth saving, and lives not worth being born. The resulting archive of data transmuted into financialized “Invest in a Girl” campaigns that reframed survival as a question of human capital.

- Description
- This anthology assembles two decades of work initiated by SisterSong Women of Color Health Collective, creators of the human rights–based “reproductive justice” framework to move beyond polarized pro-choice/pro-life debates. Rooted in Black feminism and built on intersecting identities, this book asserts a woman’s right to have children, to not have children and to parent and provide for the children they have.
