Anthropological and linguistic research on language and sexuality, both in relation to gender and beyond it, is explored. Topics include the history of the Greek word lesbian, linguistic depictions of Greek male homosexuality and female heterosexuality as related to ethnicity and power, narratives of the body and desire, masculinity constructs in lifestyle magazines and online personals, erotic desire and self beyond language, the language of heterosexual desire in hostess bars and the meanings of silence in gender dissent.
