- Description
- Through the lens of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, this publication reviews the most-common measures that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) participating states in Europe, North America and Asia have taken during the health crisis and identifies how restrictions to human rights have impacted women and girls in particular. Emergency measures have been employed in exigent circumstances, and decision-making has often not included consideration of the unintended consequences of the measures themselves. The rights of women and girls may be violated by emergency measures that have a discriminatory impact.

- This Spotlight on the SDGs paper shows that women’s employment is shaped by domestic and caregiving responsibilities, differently from men. The data collected pre-COVID-19 provide insights into the distribution of these responsibilities within various types of households. . .The publication was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, implying not only a health but also an economic and social crisis, especially for families and women. Increase in unpaid care work, losses in income and paid work, vulnerable conditions of single mothers are some examples.

- Current worldwide statistics show that in the case of COVID-19 more men than women dy of acute infection, while women suffer more than men from the long-term health, economic and social consequences of the pandemic. This report argues that innovative solutions beyond health, such as economic re-entry strategies and product development, also need to consider sex and gender. The report studies sex differences in immune responses as well as sex-specific side effects of vaccines and treatments. Next, it considers gender-specific risk factors, the design of gender-sensitive prevention campaigns and the gender-specific socioeconomic burden of social/physical distancing measures and quarantines. Finally, it provides suggestions for future COVID-19 national and EU funded research.

- Study commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the FEMM Committee, the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament. .COVID-19 has direct and indirect effects on women, other genders and marginalised groups within Europe. This study outlines some of the key gendered effects of the outbreak thus far and suggestions for how these may extend into the post-crisis period based on currently available data on COVID and longer-term effects of previous outbreaks of pathogens. This includes the lack of sex-disaggregated data, the role of healthcare workers and care workers, domestic violence, the impact of quarantine on feminised sectors of the economy, the additional unpaid labour on women as a result of lockdown, access to maternity, sexual and reproductive health services.

- Description
- Analysis of the demographic situation of the European Union (EU-28). Statistics show that the EU population is stagnating and it is expected to decline in the longer term. While the EU population is ageing as life expectancy increases, fertility rates are lower than in the past. This has serious implications for the economy, healthcare and pensions. Free movement within the EU and migration from third countries also play an important role in shaping demography in individual member states and regions. .The 'in-focus' section of the 2020 edition looks at the relationship between food and nutrition and demographic changes. It shows that, however food quality and healthier eating habits lead to higher life expectancy, the EU has to deal with and prevent the causes of diet-related chronic conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

- In this publication the author argues that the general dismissal of migraine can be traced back to the gendered social values embedded in the way we talk about, understand, and make policies for people in pain. She shows how this problem plays out in the history of migraine, from nineteenth-century formulations of migraine as a disorder of upper-class intellectual men and hysterical women to the influential concept of ‘migraine personality’ in the 1940s, in which women with migraine were described as uptight neurotics who withheld sex, to contemporary depictions of people with highly sensitive ‘migraine brains’.

- Undocumented immigrants have a marginalized position in our society. They cannot speak up for themselves. Since they have no permission to stay in the host country and live in permanent fear of being reported to the authorities, they will not easily report complaints and problems they experienced when claiming their right to health care. Undocumented women are supposed to be even more marginalized. Since they often live in dependence of male partners or employers it is even more difficult for them to speak up. In order to guarantee the right to health care, undocumented women should be given a clear and loud voice. That is the main relevance of this study. Met een Nederlandse samenvatting.

- Gender analysis remains central to understanding social life, yet focusing on gender alone is inadequate. Recent feminist sociological scholarship highlights how gender intersects with other systems of privilege and oppression. In this book five themes are carried forward throughout the text: the social construction of gender differences: gendered inequalities: intersections of gender with other systems of privilege and oppression: a relational global perspective: and the necessity of working toward social justice.

- The Gender Equality Index is a tool to measure the progress of gender equality in the EU, developed by EIGE. It gives more visibility to areas that need improvement and ultimately supports policy makers to design more effective gender equality measures.
The Gender Equality Index has tracked the painfully slow progress of gender equality in the EU since 2010, mostly due to advances in decision-making. While equality is more pronounced in some Member States than in others, it is far from a reality for everyone in every area. Gender norms around care, gender segregation in education and the labour market, and gender inequalities in pay remain pertinent.
The Index allows Member States to easily monitor and compare gender equality progress across various groups of women and men in the EU over time and to understand where improvements are most needed. The 2022 Index has a thematic focus on care in the pandemic. It explores the division of informal childcare, long-term care and housework between women and men.

- Description
- Across several social, economic, and political dimensions, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 crisis because of their sex. This working paper presents indicators for two dashboards, which give an overview of gender inequalities from the COVID-19 crisis. The first dashboard covers a set of indicators on capabilities at risk. The first set of indicators points to women's health and risk factors by examining women's presence in the health sector, access to sexual and reproductive health and their risk of underlying cardiovascular conditions. The second set of indicators explores women's presence in the formal and informal economy. The second dashboard offers indicators regarding safe space at the household level, time spent on unpaid domestic and care work, child marriage and intimate partner violence. It also covers indicators about women's representation in responding to the crisis through for example access to technology, education and political participation.

- Description
- Globally, as more people are at home than ever, due to measures and lockdowns against the corona virus, the need for household chores and care has multiplied. The Women Count programme of UN Women has rolled out Rapid Gender Assessment surveys (RGAs) in nearly 50 countries to monitor how these results are being used to improve the design of COVID-19 programmes and interventions and is documenting 'use cases' that integrate RGA results within gender-responsive planning, programming, or advocacy work amid COVID-19. Gathering these gender data is helping countries prioritize the rights of women and girls. .In this report data were analyzed on who is doing more unpaid domestic and care work, the increase of time spent on household chores by women and men, involvement of sons and daughters, overwork or job loss by domestic workers, average hours spent on childcare, who is giving up paid work, and COVID-19 policy measures by governments on women's economic security and unpaid care work.
