- Description
- This report provides an overview of situations of women in the MENA region after 2011. Despite of achievements and improvements in women's lives in health and education, there is less progress in women's participation on the labour market, in politics and the civil society. The report not only examines the impact of the conflicts and the political opportunities after the 2011 Arab uprisings, but also focuses on the situation of LGBT persons. It proposes an approach that balances the ethical demands of individual and collective rights as well as a liberal position supporting women’s and LGBT rights.

- Description
- The essays in this collection examine issues of gender, family, and law in the Middle East and South Asia. In particular, the authors address the impact of colonialism on law, family, and gender relations: the role of religious politics in writing family law and the implications for gender relations: and the tension between international standards emerging from UN conferences and conventions and various nationalist projects. Employing the frame of globalization, the authors highlight how local and global forces interact and influence the experience and actions of people who engage with the law. . .By virtue of a 'south-south' comparison of two quite similar and culturally linked regions, contributors avoid positing 'the West' as a modern telos. Drawing upon the fields of anthropology, history, sociology, and law, this volume offers an exploration of the complicated history of jurisprudence with regard to family and gender.

- In this publication the author takes the reader on a tour of how self-identity developed throughout history and what individualism means for Muslim societies struggling to maintain a sense of honor in a globalized twenty-first century. He analyzes the connection between tribal patriarchy and Muslim radicalism through the tribal patriarchy index. This index helps to illuminate why women's sexuality, dress, and image so compel militant Muslim outrage and sometimes violent action.

- Description
- This report presents the first round of IMAGES data collection in the MENA region (Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, and Palestine) regarding men’s practices and attitudes. It analyzes the lives of men as sons, husbands and fathers, at home and at work, in public and private life, to better understand how they see their positions as men and their attitudes and actions toward gender equality. The subjects considered include gender norms, gender-equality policies, household dynamics, caregiving and fatherhood, intimate partner violence, sexual diversity, health and economic stress. The study provides women’s perspectives on these same issues. Both across and within countries, the study results show men’s and women’s various perspectives on the ways in which gender roles and women’s rights are changing in their own lives and in the wider world around them.
