- Description
- The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), conducted in 1995, revealed that the Netherlands was one of the top performing countries in mathematics achievement in both grade 4 (10-year-olds) and grade 8 (14-year-olds). At the same time, the Netherlands appeared to be one of the few countries with significant gender differences in mathematics achievements in grade 4 in favour of boys. The purpose of this study was to explore the potentials of TIMSS-data (test students and teacher characterictics) to find possible explanations for gender differences in grade 4 and their disappearance in grade 8.
