- Description
- The scope of this report is on the revealing of gender practices in the construction of academic excellence in recruitment and selection procedures. Core questions for this report are whether the criteria that have been used .play out differently or similarly for male and female candidates, and how constructions of excellence are connected to the reproduction of inequalities in the research system. The construction of excellence is particularly salient for those workers who hold precarious positions, as the label of excellence is the key to their inclusion or exclusion in academia and research. This report presents a comparative analysis across GARCIA beneficiaries in Switzerland, Italy, Iceland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Slovenia. The analysis is based on national research reports from these countries.

- Description
- This report gives a picture of where women stand today and how they have progressed in the world of work over the last 20 years, and of the root causes of inequalities and how they should be tackled based on what works and the guidance provided by international labour standards. It shows that, despite some encouraging advances, major gender gaps at work remain. Increasing gender parity in educational attainment does not prevent women from being concentrated in middle to lower-paid occupations that reflect traditional gender stereotypes and beliefs about women’s and men’s aspirations and capabilities.

- Description
- 'With an aging population and declining productivity growth, Europe faces serious challenges to raising its output growth. Adding to these challenges are the various gender gaps in the labor market. Despite significant progress in recent decades, there are still fewer women than men participating in Europe’s labor market, and women are more likely to work part time. Furthermore, a smaller share of women reaches the top rungs of the corporate ladder. .Against this backdrop, this paper investigates the drivers of female labor force participation in Europe as well as what effects greater gender diversity in senior corporate positions might have for Europe’s economic performance. Reexamining the factors driving women’s labor force participation is particularly important because in many European countries the process of closing the gender gap has stalled despite greater gender equality in human capital investment, declining birth rates, changing social norms, and equal legal access to employment opportunities. .For women in Europe the decision to work is not simply a matter of personal choice—policies matter, too. .More women in the labor force paves the way for increased diversity in senior corporate positions and better firm performance. The empirical evidence suggests a strong positive association between firms’ gender diversity in senior positions and corporate financial performance.'

- 'The Global Gender Gap Index presented in this Report seeks to measure one important aspect of gender equality—the relative gaps between women and men across four key areas: health, education, economy and politics. The Index was developed in part to address the need for a consistent and comprehensive measure for gender equality that can track a country’s progress over time. More than a decade of data has revealed that progress is still too slow for realizing the full potential of one half of humanity within our lifetimes. .The Index does not seek to set priorities for countries but rather to provide a comprehensive set of data and a clear method for tracking gaps on critical indicators so that countries may set priorities within their own economic, political and cultural contexts. The Index also points to potential role models by revealing those countries that—within their region or income group—are leaders in distributing resources more equitably between women and men, regardless of the overall level of available resources.'

- Description
- Authors propose a new Typology of Gendered Pipelines that provides a multi-level, multi-dimensional and comparative analytical framework of leaky pipelines and interrelated phenomena in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia and research institutions. Along with previous studies and with a number of contemporary European studies, the GARCIA project establishes that the moving away of women from the scientific or academic path, leading to higher positions does not happen so simply as one could imagine at first glance, and that rather than adopting monocausality, we have to take a more composite view of causes and effects when thinking about the “Leaky Pipeline” and other phenomena. When looking at gender policies, under the hood of “gender equality” these have so far also focussed in a rather epidermic way on improving figures and representations in professorships and leadership positions (albeit still without much effect).

In that year, women comprised almost 46% of the active EU labour market population. Nevertheless, women’s employment and participation rates are still lower than those of men in almost all Member States. Fostering higher participation of women is crucial to meet the Europe 2020 target to achieve an overall employment rate of at least 75% by 2020. This report explores the main characteristics and consequences of gender gaps in labour market participation. It finds that the total cost of a lower female employment rate was €370 billion in 2013, corresponding to 2.8% of EU GDP. The report also examines policies and measures aimed at fostering female labour market participation, which could be central to closing gender gaps.'

- 'This report shows that routes into and out of poverty or social exclusion differ for women and men. Due to existing gender inequalities in public and private life, women are continually at a higher risk of poverty across the EU. Gender roles, stereotypes and structural inequalities weaken women’s opportunities in the labour market and devalue their work. These obstacles mean that women, especially lone mothers, struggle between work and private life much more than men. Almost every second lone mother across the EU is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. In general, women’s economic independence shrinks with the arrival of each child. This is not only harming societies, families or mothers, but there is also a high risk that children will grow up in poverty and have poorer chances for education and success in their own future life.'

They also pose formidable obstacles to progress in other areas of development. .In addition, it sheds light on levels of gender discrimination around the world, and highlights the countries where girls’ rights are most at risk. .It also identifies three specific guarantees will help governments reach the girls who are furthest behind – such as those who live in fragile and conflict-affected states, those who are on the move as refugees, those in the poorest countries and in disadvantaged regions, and those who face multiple forms of discrimination.'

Summary pages that cover regional and income group aggregates are also included. .The report examined the driving forces behind differences in key aspects of welfare between men and women—education and health, access to economic opportunities and productive resources, and the ability to make .effective choices and take action. Gender equality is increasingly recognized as not only a core development objective, but smart economics. Over the past decades, countries have seen significant progress to raise living .standards and close gaps between males and females, including visible improvements in health and education. At the same time, critical gaps persist in economic opportunity as well as agency of women and girls. Addressing .gender inequalities requires continued efforts to overcome a complex set of interrelated challenges linking gaps in human capital and technology, women’s disproportionate responsibility for unpaid work, legal discrimination, .and gender-based violence.'

The intent is that she subsequently joins him in his country of residence (migration). .The international marriage agency profits from bringing potential partners in contact with each other and facilitating the marriage.'
