- Description
- In this book the various authors discuss the relationship of gender and nation in South and Eastern European countries, including Bulgaria, the Kosovo, Serbia, Romania, and Croatia, but also in Austria, Germany and the United States. The authors argue from different scientific points of view and scholarly traditions. Contributions explain why the relationship of gender and nation is so vital, and why it leads to inclusion of the male self and the exclusion of the female other. Other contributions give examples of historical events in specific regional or political environments and describe the resulting social transformation processes.

Also in this issue the forum 'Is 'communist feminism' a contradictio in terminis?' with the following articles: 'Communism was a state patriarchy, not state feminism' by Mihaela Miroiu : 'Communism as a vision and practice' by Natalia Novikova : 'Feminims and communism: notes on the Greek case' by Angelika Psarra : 'How should we name the 'women-friendly' actions of state socialism?' by Krassimira Daskalova : 'Chinese communism and Chinese feminism' by Harriet Evans : 'On the political significance of the sexual division of labour' by Elena Gapova : 'Communist feminism : the unfulfilled possibilities of a difficult relationship' by Jane Slaughter and 'Communist feminism' as Oxymoron?
