- Description
- This collection of articles looks at the concept and the formation of citizenship in contemporary Europe, and is written from a feminist perspectieve. In the section 'Gender and citizenship' a small selection of papers of the Sixth European Gender Research Conference is presented. The articles in this section are devoted to scholarship on citizenship and the politics of exclusion and inclusion in Europe. The second section reflects on gender and science and explores how the specific context of science and knowledge production offers both access and exclusion along lines of gender. The volume finishes with articles exploring the relationship between gender and representations.

- Description
- This book is about the role black women living in the French empire played in the decolonial movements of the mid-twentieth century. The author analyzes published writings and untapped archives to reveal the anticolonialist achievements of seven women: Suzanne Césaire, Paulette Nardal, Eugénie Éboué-Tell, Jane Vialle, Andrée Blouin, Aoua Kéita and Eslanda Robeson. Their activism and thought challenged France's imperial system by shaping forms of citizenship that encouraged multiple cultural and racial identities. They also imagined new pan-African and pan-Caribbean identities informed by black feminist intellectual frameworks and practices.

- Description
- This bookdevelops essential insights concerning the notion of transnational citizenship by means of the life stories of highly educated Turkish migrant women in Germany and Great Britain, interweaving and developing theories of citizenship, identity and hybridity with the lived experiences of an immigrant group that has so far received insufficient attention. By focusing on the British and German contexts, it introduces a European and comparative perspective, whilst exploring the ways in which concepts and policies of citizenship allow for a differentiated examination of ethnicity, gender, multiculturalism and citizenship in Europe. With its empirical material in its exploration of the ways in which migrant women, though often marginalized from the nation as legal or cultural outsiders, create new meanings of belonging, this book suggests how citizenship debates can be reframed to be inclusive of migrant women as actors.

- Description
- This book offers an analysis of how women's movements have been remaking citizenship in multicultural Europe. Presenting the findings of a large scale, multi-disciplinary, cross-national feminist research project, FEMCIT, it develops an expanded, multi-dimensional understanding of citizenship as practice and experience. The book pays particular attention to processes of racialization and minoritization as they impact upon, and construct, citizenship and women's movements in contemporary Europe. The book develops answers to two vital questions – what difference have women's movements and feminism made to experiences and practices of citizenship, and how can we assess the state of citizenship in contemporary Europe from the perspective of women, particularly minoritized women?
