- Description
- Beginning with broad definitions of both feminism and literature, the book then sets out the key terms, concepts and approaches distinctive to feminist literary criticism. Within this theoretical framework the reader is then introduced to complicated areas of theory and debate, and to the work of such thinkers as Cixous, Irigaray, Lacan and Kristeva. The text is illustrated throughout with excerpts from poetry, prose, fiction and critical works, many of which form the basis for close readings using the approaches and techniques described. The author also provides a glossary to terms used in the book.

- Description
- This book contributes to current dialogues that construct Black Feminist Theory as critical engagement within dominant American institutions that oppress women of color in their daily lives. Women of color face social challenges that exist at the intersections of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation. While some challenges are common to women of color, others reflect the distinct journey each woman makes as she negotiates her identity within her family, professional circle, social and romantic relationships, and community.

- Description
- Autobiography about the authors' process of both becoming a feminist and accepting rage as a feminist superpower. According to the author black women need to embrace this process more in order to bring progress and change. She argues that feminism can give black women and girls a common language to think about how sexism, racism and classism work together to call rage.

- Description
- This new edition contains a new subsection on intersectionality. Introductory essays at the beginning of each section bring the readings together, provide historical and intellectual context, and point to critical additional readings. Five core theoretical concepts: gender, difference, women’s experiences, the personal is political, and intersectionality, anchor the anthology’s organizational framework. New to this edition, text boxes in the introductory essays add excerpts from the writings of foundational theorists that help define important theoretical concepts.

- Description
- Looking forward to the 100-year anniversary of the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, this collection of essays looks back at the decades since women won the right to vote to analyze the changes, developments, and even continuities in women's roles in the broad political sphere. Ultimately, the book asks two questions about the last 100 years of women's suffrage: How did the Nineteenth Amendment alter the American political system? and How has women's engagement in politics changed over the last 100 years?

- Description
- Over the past decade, democratization and civil society promotion became key variables in preserving global security and the liberal economic market. This book examines the prevalence of democratization policies as a hegemonic geopolitical tool: these policies represent a concerted political effort in which civil society organizations are manipulated through funding strategies. Denise Horn offers a feminist-constructivist perspective by arguing that Western gender norms—i.e. those norms that determine degrees of participation within civil society—inform the policies of hegemonic powers and transform the foundations of civil society in transitional states.

- Description
- This volume explores the theory of citizenship, in order to bridge the gap between the public and the private sphere. Through the application of intersectional methodology, the authors document how people’s most private decisions and practices are intertwined with public institutions and state policies. Situated perspectives, as well as application of theoretical concepts to lived experience, extend citizenship’s territory beyond the conventional public sphere and locate it at the intersection of many axes of social, political, and cultural stratification.

- Description
- This book confronts the historic devaluation of lesbian-feminist politics within Anglo-American discourse and ignites a transnational and transgenerational discussion regarding the relevance of lesbian feminisms in today’s world. The writers consider the wider place of lesbian feminisms within queer theory, post-colonial feminism and the movement for LGBT rights. They consider how lesbian feminisms can contribute to discussions on intersectionality, engage with trans activism and the need for trans-inclusion, to ultimately show how lesbian feminisms can offer a transformative approach to today’s sexual and gender politics.

- Description
- This book addresses the problem of alienation between discourses of feminism and transgender. It focuses on four questions: if these discourses are mutually exclusive: if it is necessary to look for causes of gender variance: if transgender and feminism are by nature separatist discourses and if we should estimate the potential for a transgender/third wave feminist coalition. The book contains a series of literature reviews that explores key themes that shaped discourses of trans subjectivity, third wave philosophy and the law related to gender.

- The terms “man,” “woman,” and “other” are socially constructed. Their meanings are maintained by the current political order. In this book Lewis argues powerfully that the emphasis on desire is actually symptomatic of neoliberal habits of thought, and consequently, is responsible for a continued focus on the limited politics of identity. Instead, Lewis shows, we should look to the arena of body production, categorization, and exclusion: only through such a reorientation can we create a politics of liberation that is truly inclusive and grounded in lived experience.

- Description
- With this book Chancer takes stock of the American feminist movement. She articulates four common causes ( advancing political and economic equality, allowing intimate and sexual freedom, ending violence against women and expanding the cultural representation of women ) considering each in turn to assess what has been gained (or not). It is around these shared concerns, Chancer argues, that we can continue to build a vibrant and expansive feminist movement and articulates a broad agenda developed through advancing intersectional concerns about class, race, and sexuality.

- Description
- This book frames the major debates and contemporary issues in women's and gender studies in India. The essays describe today's and future challenges as well as offer clues for women's and gender studies in the country through a survey of intersectionalities in feminist activism and theory: gender, caste and class: feminist, masculinity, queer and transgender studies: disability and feminism: feminist and queer pedagogies: and Indian, Western and transnational feminisms. The volume traces how gender studies have shaped established social science as well as interpretative and representational discourses (psychoanalysis, literature, aesthetics, cinema, new media studies and folklore).
