- Description
Bevat de volgende bijdragen: Introduction : gender and the experience of migration / Pamela Sharpe : Women migrants as global and local agents : new research strategies on gender and migration / Christiane Harzig : Leaving home to help the family? : male and female temporary migrants in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Spain / Carmen Sarasúa : Labour migration, family and community in early modern Japan / Mary Louise Nagata : Women and long-distance trade migration in the nineteenth-century Netherlands / Marlou Schover : Nowhere at home? : female migrants in the nineteenth-century Habsburg Empire / Sylvia Hahn : Gender, family, work and migration in early nineteenth-century Scotland / David Tidswell : Wives or workers? : single British female migration to colonial Australia / Jan Gothard : A historical perspective on female migrants : motivations and strategies of nineteenth-century Hessians / Simone A. Wegge : When the migrants are men : Italy's women and transnationalism as a working-class way of life / Donna Gabaccia : Gender and twentieth-century Irish migration, 1921-1971 / Enda Delaney : Maids on the move : images of femininity and European women's labour migration during the interwar years / Barbara Henkes : Female migration and the farm family economy in interwar Japan / Janet Hunter : Migrancy, marriage and family in the Ciskei reserve of South Africa, 1945-1959 / Anne Mager : Women and migrants : continuity and change in patterns of female migration in Latin America / Paulina de los Reyes.

- Description
- This volume places female criminality within its everyday context. It reveals how their socio-economic and cultural contexts provided women with 'agency' against a range of European backdrops, despite a fundamentally patriarchal criminal justice system, and includes in-depth analysis of original sources to show how changing living standards, employment, schooling and welfare arrangements had a direct impact on the quality of life of working class women, their risk of becoming involved in crime, and the likelihood of being prosecuted for it.
