This study was financed by the Equal Opportunities Unit between Women and Men of the Directorate-General for `Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Affairs' of the European Commission. This study identifies the sources of inequality in the 15 Member States and any discrimination based on the non-individualisation of social and fiscal rights. Three branches of social security will be considered: the areas of unemployment, retirement pensions and health care.
