- Description
- 'In all countries of the world, especially in high-income countries, women declare a higher level of life satisfaction than men when they experience similar conditions (for example, pay and working conditions), but score lower on measures that capture short-term positive and negative emotions, and suffer from higher levels of depression. It is true that the advantage of women in terms of happiness and life satisfaction is not uniform along the life cycle: women are less happy than men the age of 18, happier than men afterwards and until their fifties, and less again thereafter. .The positive gap in life satisfaction is not explained by women’s situation on the labour market, their income, education, personality traits or other personal features or living conditions. On the contrary, women would have obvious reasons to be less satisfied with their life and their professional situation than men: they perform longer hours of unpaid work, receive lower wages and are still predominantly clustered into less prestigious occupations. Authors propose two main explanations for this contrasted picture. The first one is that men and women make different use of their time, especially when they live together. The second one is that they have different expectations.'

- Description
- 'In this final policy package a wide range of experts from civil society, policy, research and employers develop a much deeper understanding for the challenges in reconciling work and family life and to showcase different practices, which were used as inspiration for drawing up concrete policy recommendations. In the last few years, there has been a growing demand for policies that support the achievement of the targets on gender equality, closing the gender and pension pay gap, women’s participation in decision making, the Barcelona targets for early childhood education and care, and a better reconciliation between work and family life. In the context of the EU 2020 Strategy, whilst not framed as a headline target, reconciliation measures have nevertheless been recognised at EU level as important means of achieving major policy objectives.'

- Description
- 'This report looks at the state of inequality in health, answering key questions: according to the latest available data, what the status is of inequality across and within countries and how levels of health have changed in population subgroups over time. The objective of this report is to showcase best practices in reporting the state of inequality in low- and middle-income countries using high-quality data, sound and transparent analysis methods, and user-oriented, comprehensive reporting. This report encompasses the latest status of inequality and changes over time across 23 RMNCH indicators, disaggregated by four dimensions of inequality (economic status, education, place of residence and sex). It draws on data from 86 low-and middle-income countries from all world regions. In a subset of 42 low- and middle-income countries (where data availability permitted), it was also possible to assess how the extent of inequality had changed over time. The use of effective reporting practices helps to convey clear, salient messages about the state of inequality. Visualization technology facilitates the presentation and interpretation of large amounts of data, as results can be displayed using .interactive, customizable views.'

- Description
- '2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the agreement signed by 189 countries that attended the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. Over the last two decades, Africa has made significant strides in developing progressive frameworks to advance the rights of women. This report is structured around four main sections: the first section offers an overview of the evolution of the socio-economic and political terrain within which women’s rights work has occurred. The second substantive sections summarises the key findings from the 51 state reports and the trends noted across all 51 state reports that were submitted to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The third substantive section looks at the 12 critical areas, assessing gaps in state reporting and highlighting illustrative examples where innovation and/or where progress has occurred in specific states. These illustrations are not designed to highlight what all 51 reporting states have done in the 12 areas. The final section concludes with a set of recommendations.'

- ‘This report focuses on the economic and social dimensions of gender equality, including the right of all women to a good job, with fair pay and safe working conditions, to an adequate pension in older age, to health care and to safe water without discrimination based on factors such as socio-economic status, geographic location and .race or ethnicity. In doing so, it aims to unravel some of the current challenges and contradictions facing the world today: at a time when women and girls have almost equal opportunities when it comes to education.’

- Description
- 'This Eurobarometer Survey seeks to measure Europeans' perceptions of gender inequalities within their own country: how widespread inequalities between women and men are, and whether the situation has improved or worsened compared with ten years ago: whether men or women are more likely to experience such .discrimination among particular groups of people (young, old, people with disabilities, migrants, single parents, and working parents with young children): and the areas of life (e.g. work, school, media, politics) where gender stereotypes are deemed to be most prevalent. It also examines Europeans’ general attitudes towards gender equality and, more specifically, the role of women in the workplace and the role of men at home. In .terms of tackling gender inequalities, the survey provides measures on Europeans’ opinions on which organisations have contributed most over the last ten years: whether this should be an EU priority: which areas should be dealt with most urgently: and what measures are considered to be the most effective at increasing the number of women in the workplace, and increasing the amount of time men spend on home care activities. .Finally, the survey explores the issue of violence against women – what Europeans think this encompasses and which specific forms of such violence the EU should focus its efforts on.'

- 'At the beginning of the new millennium, world leaders gathered at the United Nations to shape a broad vision to .fight poverty in its many dimensions. That vision, which was translated into eight Millennium Development Goals .(MDGs), has remained the overarching development framework for the world for the past 15 years. Thanks to concerted global, regional, national and local efforts, the MDGs have saved the lives of millions and improved conditions for many more. The data and analysis presented in this report prove that, with targeted interventions, sound strategies, adequate resources and political will, even the poorest countries can make dramatic and unprecedented progress. The report also acknowledges uneven achievements and shortfalls in many areas.'

- This report tries to determine why 15-year-old boys are more likely than girls, on average, to be overall low achievers. And why high-performing 15-year-old girls underachieve in mathematics, science and problem solving compared to high-achieving boys. As the evidence in the report makes clear, gender disparities in school performance stem from students’ attitudes towards learning and their behaviour in school, from how they choose to spend their leisure time, and from the confidence they have – or do not have – in their own abilities as students.
