The report also describes the medical and mental health consequences of armed conflict. Indeed, it reports that 69% of the women interviewed during this study reported a gynaecological complaint. In the case of medical problems that were documented as a result of the conflict, 43% of the 643 respondents interviewed for this study had clinically significant mental health problems, 12% were addicted to alcohol, 15% had attempted suicide and 61% had a surgical complaint. - Description
- The twelve essays in this publication present a continuum of cases where the state enables violence against women - from state-sponsored torture to lax prosecution of sexual assault. Some contributors uncover buried histories of state violence against women throughout the twentieth century, in locations as diverse as Ireland, Indonesia, and Guatemala. Others spotlight ongoing struggles to define the state’s role in preventing gendered violence, from domestic abuse policies in the Russian Federation to anti-trafficking laws in the United States.

- Comparible analysis of different forms of violence European women experience in their childhood and throughout the course of their lives. This report presents the cross-regional, comparable findings of the OSCE-led Survey on the well-being and safety of women. This study was conducted in 2018 in selected countries in South Eastern Europe and Eastern Europe. The research examined both violence that women experience in conflict and non-conflict settings and the impact violence has on women and girls, including its lasting consequences. Questions on norms and attitudes connected to violence against women were asked to better understand the underlying causes of violence.

- Description
- Interviewing women of different ages and backgrounds, Al-Jawaheri examines the impact of the UN economic sanctions of Iraq on women's employment status, on different forms of female education, on gender relations inside the family, on violence against women, and on women's domestic responsibilities. She adds a chapter on the history of the relations of Iraqi women and the state, with emphasis on the legislation and characteristics of female labour participation. She demonstrates that the explosion of violence and intimidation against women should not have taken people by surprise. The deterioration of gender relations was already taking place during the decade of international sanctions. The war and subsequent upsurge intensified problems.
