- Description
- Ducat shows how anxious masculinity has been a discernible subtext in politics throughout the history of Western culture—from the political campaigns of ancient Greece to the contest for the presidency. He also explores why and how political issues—such as environmental protection, support for war, welfare reform, and crime and punishment—get gendered.. .Analyzing various aspects of popular culture, such as editorial cartoons, political advertisements, and Freudian slips made by politicians—and drawing on his own pioneering research on the gender gap—Ducat illustrates how men's fear of the feminine has been a powerful, if subterranean, force.

- Description
- Following the structure of the first edition of Gendered Intersections, this second edition examines the intersections across and between gender, race, culture, class, ability, sexuality, age and geographical location from the perspectives of academics, artists and activists. Using different mediums — academic research, poetry, statistics, visual essays, fiction, emails and music — this collection explores gender through issues such as Aboriginal self-governance, poverty, work, spirituality, globalization and community activism. This new edition brings a greater focus on politics, and gender and the law. It also includes access to a Gendered Intersections website, which contains several performances by poets and a Gendered Intersections Quiz, which highlights the historical and contemporary contributions of women and non-hegemonic men to Canadian society.

- Description

- Description
- The author elucidates racial politics and racial subjugation, especially in their gendered and queer psychosexual dynamics. Explicating in detail two imprinting episodes in American racial history -lynching and prison rape- Pinar argues that the gender of racial politics and violence in America is in some sense queer. He pays attention to the Klu Klux Klan, the N.A.A.C.P., men and women and racial politics and women's movements.

- Description
- The author discusses the arguments of conservative Christians against same-sex marriage.Focusing primarily on texts produced by Focus on the Family (an American organization informing conservative Christian culture), the author identifies two ideas of male homosexuality. He argues that: these homosexualities enable a complex ideal of Christian masculinity in which men are encouraged to be assertive toward the world while also being submissive toward God and family: these sexual contradiction influence the flow of power between the sexes and within the state: it joins notions of sexual equality to claims of 'natural' difference: heterosexual union is then treated as emblematic of the success of American political life. The author finally connects the desire for stability to the conservative Christian movement's strategies of political power.
