In de inleiding wordt ingegaan op 'oral history' als methode (de voor- en nadelen) en de keuze voor deze methode in combinatie met vrouwengeschiedenis.

- Most research has accepted stereotypical images of Muslim women, treating their outward manifestations, such as veiling, as passive and oppressive. By approaching widely used sources with different questions and methodologies, this book redresses these deficiencies.
