- Description
- The author explores how people hold their worlds together in terms of religious beliefs, social cohesion, family relations, gender norms, livelihood practices and idioms of roots, relatedness and place. How they incorparate categories like 'history, locality, econimic globalisation or transnational political integration into everyday discourses. And how these categories are made meaningful to local actors in rural Dalmatia. She focuses on continual contestations over truth, history and memory and how these generate narratives of victimhood and shape local identities in Croatia. She examines phenomena such as Marian apparitions, a historic knights tournament, the symbolic re-signification of a massacre site, and the social situation of Croatian war veterans.
