Geboren en getogen in Indonesië. Woonde periodes in Nederland maar in Suriname zette Asta Elstak zich in voor Surinaamse vrouwen in diverse maatschappelijke organisaties zoals Hulp aan Surinaamse vrouwen, YWCA, het Miss Universe Committee en de Sociale Raad. Steeds weer wees zij Surinaamse vrouwen op het belang van goede scholing en economische onafhankelijkheid. In Nederland ging zij verder met haar vrijwilligersactiviteiten en bleef zij zich inzetten voor de Surinamers. In 1985 kreeg zij de Dr. Sophie Redmond onderscheiding en in 1992 een koninklijke onderscheiding en de Gouden Palm. Zie ook: F453-96, 100026157t/m100026161. Collectie Gon Buurman.
