The book examines ecofeminism through the literatures of a diverse sampling of languages, including Hindi, Chinese, Arabic, and Spanish; native speakers of Tamil, Vietnamese, Turkish, Slovene, and Icelandic. It analysis core issues and topics, offering innovative approaches to interpreting literature, including: activism, animal studies, cultural studies, disability, gender essentialism, hegemonic masculinity, intersectionality, material ecocriticism, postcolonialism, posthumanism, postmodernism, race, and sentimental ecology.

- Description
- The author interrogates how feminist activists navigate complex technological ecosystems to build awareness of misogyny, violence against women, and oppressive experiences women face both online and offline while cultivating transnational feminist networks and carving out spaces upon which to build and elevate women’s voices. It addresses several key questions on feminis activism online through the analysis of three key case studies: the international feminist organisation Hollaback!; the #EndViolenceAgainstWomen campaign; and the global #TakeDownJulienBlanc movement. This book addresses cultural and social questions about how digital platforms shape the values of our communities and how stakeholders negotiate and engage in civic practices.

- Description

- Description
- This book unravels the establishment, procedures and operations of the Landraad - a judicial forum set up by the Dutch East India Company (abbreviated as VOC in Dutch) - and analyses the colonial Roman-Dutch law in everyday practices on the eighteenth-century island of Sri Lanka. A choice of laws came into play in that forum, that choice being significant at varying degrees for different areas of the law such as evidence, inheritance, land rights, and marriage law. While there was inevitable conflict, the local normative order was as much a social fact for the early colonial rulers as Roman-Dutch law. This is contrary to the received wisdom of the ages that Roman-Dutch law was imposed on the Sinhalese of the maritime provinces under Dutch control. When translated into everyday lives, such adoption of plural practices could rebound on coloniser and colonised in unexpected ways, revealing the complexities of colonial law in practice.

- Description
- The first print edition of the transcriptions of two extant manuscripts by English writer Dorothy Calthorpe (1648–1693). The Redwood Library manuscript 'news from the Midell Regions' from 1674 contains of four texts: the prose 'A Castell in the Aire', which also appears in 'Calthorpe's Chapel', and three short poems. All the texts are religious in nature and unified by the theme: the superiority of a spiritual life to a physical life on earth. The Beinecke Library manuscript 'Calthorpe's Chapel' from 1684 includes a diverse range of genres composed as a unified whole with themes as Christian stewardship and the superiority of an intellectual, meditative life over a passionate, material one. Calthorpe also creates several idealized, even utopian, spaces in this volume. This edition also provides a comprehensive introduction to Calthorpe, her family, and her work; content and analysis of the manuscripts; Calthorpe’s will; a glossary of persons who figured in her writing and her life; and two genealogical charts.
