- Description
- Violent extremism has a gender dimension that produces disproportionate effects on women. It forms a leading challenge to realizing sustainable peace globally. This research volume focuses on the relation between gender identity and violent extremism in South and South-East Asia. The first chapter analyzes militarized masculinities in the southern Philippines to illustrate how notions of masculinity and femininity operate in local settings and how they are linked to notions of violence. The second chapter examines how gender identities are portrayed in the myths and stories of violent extremist groups from Indonesia and the Philippines. In the third contribution, the author explores the relationship between violent extremism and domestic violence against women, through interviews with communities in rural Bangladesh. The final chapter examines the relationship between gender inequality, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and the presence of terrorist groups.

- Description
- In Britain today, three-quarters of mothers are in employment and paid work is an unremarkable feature of women's lives after childbirth. À century ago, working mothers were in the minority, excluded from many occupations, whilst their wage-earning was widely perceived as a social ill. McCarthy accounts for this transformation, whose consequences have been momentous for Britain's society and economy.

- Description

- Description
- There is a high global need for data on violence against women (VAW), including from administrative sources, is currently high on the global agenda. Yet, benefiting survivors and ensuring accountability of perpetrators, synthesis of good practices and guidance for their collection from and use by different sectors is generally lacking. This background paper gathers evidence on the collection and use of VAW administrative data. It was used as the technical document for an Expert group meeting (EGM) on administrative data on violence against women in September 2019 by UN Women.

- Description
- An anti-homosexuality law circulating in the Ugandan parliament generated between 2009 and 2014 a global discussion about queer rights. The book explores the afterlives of colonialism and the queer futures enabled by it in Uganda, India, and Britain. It describes the international relations that anticipated and followed the Anti Homosexuality Act, explores the dialectic produced by two opposed statements that mark queer postcolonial disagreements and reveals how queerness mutates in different configurations of power.

- Description
- This publication serves as a knowledge base to understand and enforce action concerning gender-based violence (GBV) and environmental issues. It argues that gender-based abuse is observed across environmental contexts and affects the security of communities and the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs). The analysis shows the interlinking nature of GBV across three main contexts: access to and control of natural resources (land, forests, agriculture, water and fisheries): environmental pressure and threats (environmental crimes, extractive industries and agribusiness and climate change and weather-related disasters): and environmental action to defend and conserve ecosystems and resources (women environmental human rights defenders, environmental projects and environmental workplaces). The publication focuses on awareness and engagement of actors working in environmental and sustainable development, gender equality and GBV policymaking to apply rights-based, gender-responsive approaches to environmental policy, programmes and projects. The publication contains a list of case studies.
