- Examination of the roles of aggressive fantasies and impulses in contemporary women's lives. The author argues that such impulses have previously been overlooked by psychoanalysis, feminism and depth psychology when She demonstrates how the management of aggressive fantasies plays a significant role in women's self-experience and their position in society and how aggressive fantasies become the basis for psychological, relational and moral growth. In particular, the author examines the role of aggressive fantasies and energies in recovery from severe eating disorders.

- Description
- Spanning over nine hundred years Duran tries to trace the themes of standard philosophical theorizing and feminist thought across women philosophers in the Western tradition. Jane Duran has crafted an overview of eight women philosophers--Hildegard of Bingen, Anne Conway, Mary Astell, Mary Wollstonecraft, Harriet Taylor Mill, Edith Stein, Simone Weil, and Simone de Beauvoir--that underscores the profound and continuing significance of these thinkers for contemporary scholars. .Duran devotes one chapter to each philosopher and provides a critical analysis of her work, utilizing aspects of Continental theory, poststructuralist theory, and literary theory. She situates each philosopher within her respective era and in relation to her intellectual contemporaries.

- This book advances our understanding of minority rights by focusing on conflicts that arise within minority groups and by examining the different sorts of responses that the liberal state might have to these conflicts. Groups around the world are increasingly successful in maintaining or winning autonomy. In light of this trend, a crucial question emerges: what happens to individuals within groups who find that their group discriminates against them?

- Overview of popular feminist fiction from the late 1960s to the end of the 1990s, looking at how key feminist texts such as 'The Women's Room', 'Kinflicks' and 'Fear of Flying' have influenced popular contemporary works such as 'Bridget Jones' Diary' and 'Sex and the City'. Whelehan argues how feminism still shapes women's writing today, even when such writing seems to ignore or reject feminism.

- Description
- Motherhood and citizenship are terms that are closely linked and have been redefined over the past century due to changes in women's status, feminist movements, and political developments. Mother-child relationships were greatly affected by political decisions during the early 1900s, and the maternal role has been transformed over the years. To understand the dilemmas faced by women concerning motherhood and work, for example, Allen argues that the problem must be examined in terms of its demographic and political development through history. Allen highlights the feminist movements in Western Europe--primarily Britain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands--and explores the implications of the maternal role for women's aspirations to the rights of citizenship. Among the topics Allen explores are the history of the maternal role, psychoanalysis and theories on the mother-child relationship, changes in family law from 1890-1914, the economic status of mothers, and reproductive responsibility.
