- Description
- In this issue on victimization among the family and its direct relations a report of a nation-wide study on domestic violence in the Netherlands. The cooperation of battered women as victims and witnesses is analyzed by examining experiences, opinions and perceptions of experts who deal most closely with batterd women in the United States. Female abusers of children are discussed and the way in which such cases are processed by the criminal justice system. 76 Cases of intimate femicide (killing of women by their intimate male partners) in Israel during 1990 and 1995 are investigated. The findings are put in a theoretical framework which assumes that violence in society will be positively related to stress factors and negatively related to support systems. Also the effects of and the victimization history of women in England and Wales on the likelihood of them receiving at least one obscene or nuisance phone call is being described.

- Description
- Description of criminal histories, substance use and mental health of two samples of female offenders in the community: drug court and probationers. Findings suggest differences between the groups on measures of lifetime and recent substance use. Logistic regression models indicated that membership in these two groups could be predicted by drug use and mental health. The authors argue that a 'one size fits all' approach for working with community substance using female offenders may not be appropriate.

- Description
- Analysis of data from a sample of 503 women completing their community correction sentences in a Southeastern state in the US between January 1997 and April 1997. This study examines the factors that significantly contribute to the successful completion of probation and parole. Logistic Regression analysis reveals that age, race and alcohol and drug usage problems were the strongest predictors of success among female offenders. Limitations of these data and policy implications from this research are discussed.
