- Description
- This report considers the social and economic costs of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Pakistan. The results presented originate from the What Works to Prevent Violence: Economic and Social Costs project (2014-2019), funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). One of the findings is that 2.2% of employed women in Pakistan are not working as a consequence of VAWG. Besides, children of women experiencing intimate partner violence miss over two million school days annually. The results show the impact of VAWG on economic productivity and wellbeing in Pakistan and the need for more investment in prevention programmes.

- Description
- 'With an aging population and declining productivity growth, Europe faces serious challenges to raising its output growth. Adding to these challenges are the various gender gaps in the labor market. Despite significant progress in recent decades, there are still fewer women than men participating in Europe’s labor market, and women are more likely to work part time. Furthermore, a smaller share of women reaches the top rungs of the corporate ladder. .Against this backdrop, this paper investigates the drivers of female labor force participation in Europe as well as what effects greater gender diversity in senior corporate positions might have for Europe’s economic performance. Reexamining the factors driving women’s labor force participation is particularly important because in many European countries the process of closing the gender gap has stalled despite greater gender equality in human capital investment, declining birth rates, changing social norms, and equal legal access to employment opportunities. .For women in Europe the decision to work is not simply a matter of personal choice—policies matter, too. .More women in the labor force paves the way for increased diversity in senior corporate positions and better firm performance. The empirical evidence suggests a strong positive association between firms’ gender diversity in senior positions and corporate financial performance.'

- This report measures how laws and regulations affect women’s economic opportunity in 190 economies. According to the results, women still have three-fourths the legal rights of men. Laws matter for women’s economic inclusion. The 2020 edition covers reforms conducted during a two-year period ending in September 2019. The index explores economic rights during different milestones in a woman’s working life through eight indicators, including mobility, payment, laws affecting women's work after having children and legal constraints on a woman's pension.

- Description
- 'The international community is increasingly aware of the negative impacts of child marriage on a wide range of development outcomes. Ending child marriage is now part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Yet investments to end the practice remain limited across the globe and more could be done. In order to inspire greater commitments towards ending child marriage, this study demonstrates the negative impacts of the practice and their associated economic costs. The study looks at five domains of impacts: (i) fertility and population growth: (ii) health, nutrition, and violence: (iii) educational attainment and learning: (iv) labor force participation and earnings: and (v) participation, decision-making, and investments. Economic costs associated with the impacts are estimated for several of the impacts. When taken together across countries, the costs of child marriage are very high. They suggest that investing to end child marriage is not only the right thing to do, but also makes sense economically.'

- Description
- This report is the result of a pilot study examining the scale of the diversity crisis in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. The diversity crisis can be seen in unequal workplaces throughout industry and in academia, in the disparities in hiring and promotion, in the AI technologies that reflect and amplify biased stereotypes, and in the resurfacing of biological determinism in automated systems. .Throughout this report, the scope and scale of the problem is outlined, tracing how the diversity crisis in the industry and the problems of bias in AI systems are interrelated aspects of the same issue.
