The color of violence
The color of violence
This book reconsiders a reliance on the criminal justice system for solving women’s struggles with domestic violence: acknowledge how militarism subjects women to extreme levels of violence perpetrated from within, and without, their communities: recognize how the medical establishment inflicts violence—such as involuntary sterilization and inadequate health care—on women of color: devise new strategies for cross-cultural dialogue, theorizing and alliance building. .INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence was born in 2000, when more than two thousand activists from diverse communities came together to end the war being waged on women of color in the US and around the world. Now the largest multiracial, grassroots, feminist organization in the United States, INCITE! boasts chapters in more than 20 cities. -

Fallgirls
This book is an analysis of the abuses that took place at Abu Ghraib based on first-hand participant-observations of the courts - martials of Lynndie England and Sabrina Harman. It examines the trials themselves, including interactions with soldiers and defense teams, documents pertaining to the courts-martials, US government reports and photographs from Abu Ghraib, in order to challenge the view that the abuses were carried out at the hands of a few rogue soldiers. With a keen focus on gender and sexuality as prominent aspects of the abuses themselves, as well as the ways in which they were portrayed and tried, the book engages with modern feminist thought and contemporary social theory in order to analyse the manner in which the abuses were framed, whilst also exploring the various lived realities of Abu Ghraib by both prisoners and soldiers alike.- Creator

A synthesis of evidence on the collection and use of administrative data on violence against women
There is a high global need for data on violence against women (VAW), including from administrative sources, is currently high on the global agenda. Yet, benefiting survivors and ensuring accountability of perpetrators, synthesis of good practices and guidance for their collection from and use by different sectors is generally lacking. This background paper gathers evidence on the collection and use of VAW administrative data. It was used as the technical document for an Expert group meeting (EGM) on administrative data on violence against women in September 2019 by UN Women.- Creator

The authors describe the violence against women in Guatemala, specifically focusing on the number of murders, the victims, the context in which they occur, the theories behind the murders, and the specific circumstances that led victim Rodi to leave Guatemala and seek asylum in the U.S. They examine aspects of the Guatemalan legal and judicial systems, the ineffective response from police, prosecutors and the judiciary, that results in widespread impunity for perpetrators. They describe Guatemala's international obligations to protect women and the current U.S. programs offering economic assistance to strenghten the Guatemalan criminal justice system.- Creator

The media has a big influence on the atmosphere in the courtroom, even on the verdict. A research at the Mainz University shows that 9 out of ten lawyers are convinced of that. Gisella Friedrichsen, court reporter from the German magazine 'Der Spiegel', plays a big rol in this. In this Dossier the focus is on two court cases: one concerning honor killings and one about childabuse.- Creator
