- Description
- Comparative study of the novels written by five German-speaking women - Anna Gmeyner, Selma Kahn, Hilde Spiel, Martina Wied and Hermynia Zur Mühlen - who had to flee National Socialist Central Europe. - Description
- This book is about knowledge of racism, where that knowledge comes from, what it contains and how it can be used in politics, education, media, museums, health care, technology, community work organizations. It gives insight into the way in which racism is institutionally anchored, what the connection looks like between system and everyday practices and between micro and macro dimensions of racism. The book gives an in-depth look at the theory of everyday racism as a power conflict and process. It is based on interviews with higher educated black women in the Netherlands and in California, United States.

- Description
- This publication responds to the need for a more materialist perspective on migration by reorienting the focus on domesticity and the everyday practices of homemaking and away from a celebratory and aestheticized reading of displacement. Centering on Britain as the location of arrival, its readings of canonical and underexplored works of diasporic fiction emanating from Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean foreground the significance of discourses of domesticity in supporting as well as resisting colonialism, racism and xenophobia. Applying an intersectional feminist approach, this book challenges the tendency to view the private sphere as a static, apolitical and uncreative space. Writers discussed are: Buchi Emecheta, Andrea Levy, Monica Ali, Leila Aboulela, Abdulrazak Gurnah, Bernardine Evaristo
