- Description
- In late antiquity Christian women used to bury the remains of saints and martyrs, sometimes on land the women themselves owned. The legends of these bone gatherers launch Denzey's investigation into the experiences of third- and fourth-century Roman women based on the visual and archeological evidence they left behind in the city's catacombs. Denzey explores what these women's lives were really like as the feminine ideal shifted from pagan Rome's devoted wives to Catholic Christianity's virgin martyrs. She also analyses Pope Damasus's impact on the masculinization of Rome's sacred space, the privatization of women's roles and the end of the female tradition of bone gathering.

- Description
- The purpose of the study is to bring out often-neglected facts concerning dissimilarities in the lifestyles and consumption patterns of women and men, and thus in their environmental impact, by describing how men, primarily through their greater mobility and more extensive travel, account for more carbon dioxide emissions than women, in both rich and poor countries. The study points to how a changed behaviour among men – notably rich men who are decision-makers – can be crucial in addressing climate change and in enhancing the opportunities of all human beings to enjoy sustainable development.. .The study is an ideas paper presented at the 15PthP meeting of the UN Commission for Sustainable Development in May 2007.

- Description
- In a reinterpretation of the years between 1620 and 1763, the author argues how ideas about gender and family life were central to the ways people in colonial New England, and their neighbors in New France and Indian Country, described their experiences in cross-cultural warfare. Little argues that English, French, and Indian people had broadly similar ideas about gender and authority. Because they understood both warfare and political power to be intertwined expressions of manhood, colonial warfare may be understood as a contest of different styles of masculinity.
