- Description
- The multidisciplinary contributions, which cover a variety of theoretical approaches, are all concerned with transitional labor markets and labor market policy in the new global economic environment. The authors first address current arguments and controversies regarding appropriate institutions for the formation and implementation of labor market and employment policies. They move on to focus on the policies and problems associated with enhancing gender equality in terms of labor market integration and transitions. Finally, they examine new institutional arrangements that they believe will both enhance the performance of transitional labor markets and improve the management of social risks. .Combining a theoretical approach with empirical research and a strong policy emphasis, the scope and diversity of this book will ensure a broad audience among economists, political scientists and academics in the fields of labor market theory and policy.

- Description
- Through a series of case studies of low-status interactive and embodied servicing work, this book examines the theoretical and empirical nature of the shift to embodied work in service-dominated economies. The author defines ‘body work’ to include the work by service sector employees on their own bodies and on the bodies of others. It .sets UK case studies in the context of global patterns of economic change and explores the consequences of growing polarization in the service sector. The book draws on geography, sociology, anthropology, labour market studies, and feminist scholarship

- Description
- Using new evidence to explore the diverse ways that English women participated in the market economy from 1300 to 1620, Marjorie McIntosh challenges traditional views of this 'golden age' as well as more recent critiques. She argues that women's engagement in the market economy fluctuated widely under the pressures of demographic, economic, social and cultural change. Thus, although they enjoyed unprecedented opportunities following the plagues of 1348-49, these opportunities had largely eroded by the late sixteenth century.
