- Description
- Interdisciplinary reader demonstrates how widely feminist thinking has spread, how deeply it has shaken settled assumptions in the disciplines and how much new light it throws on contemporary controversies. This volume offers not only a reference manual to what we now know about gender relations as social forces but also gives impetus to future thinking in imaginative and utopian ways about questions of gender, power and knowledge. Each chapter explores contemporary questions and dilemmas in feminist theory and research, assessing the impacts of past research and feminist actions. Leading scholars discuss such topics as the state of women's and gender studies, feminist epistemology, cultural representations, globalization and the state, families, and work.

- Description
- The theme of this collection is gendered citizenship and the challenges and limits that confront the gendering of citizenship. It critiques the notion of the genderless nation-state citizen — in both analytical and policy terms and contexts — and necessarily engages with at least three major sets of contradictions or tensions: limitations on achieving gender equal or gender equitable citizenship: relations and differences between gender equality policy, diversity policy, and gender mainstreaming: and interplays of academic analyses of and practical interventions on gendered citizenship. Contributors from diverse scientific disciplines and academic backgrounds aim to provide a better understanding of the challenges that societies within Europe and elsewhere face vis-à-vis diversity, regionalism, transnationalism, and migration.

- Description
- The term 'homonormativity' describes current prevailing idealised assumptions about lesbian identity. This concept, however, marginalizes subgroups within the greater lesbian population. The authors confront 'homonormativity' in lesbian communities by discussing what is a definable lesbian identity. They explore issues about gender policing and the viewpoints in lesbian communities that hold that transgender, intersectional and queer individuals are considered to have 'false consciousness'. This monograph has been co-published simultaneously as Journal of Lesbian Studies vol. 10 (2006), numbers 1/2.
