The Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Conventions cooperate to protect human health and the environment from the negative effects of pollution. This analysis explores how women are represented as delegates to the Conferences of the Parties (COPs), members and observers of Conventions’ Subsidiary Bodies and National Implementation Plans (NIPs). It also studies how gender equality considerations are included in Parties’ reports to the BRS Conventions and in the Rotterdam Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Circular. Results illustrate an improvement in women’s participation in key decision-making processes and the inclusion of gender considerations within initial NIPs. Yet, parties not yet fully integrate or mainstream gender considerations within their planning and reporting documents.
