This report is a result of Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children interviews with returnee women and girls. Sixty returnee women and girls from rural areas of Herat were interviewed between July 26th and August 7th, 2000.
The purpose of this article is to explain the status of women in the Iranian Constitution. The findings indicate that the status and the rights of women have been unequivocally articulated in the Iranian Constitution. However, there are some ambiguities concerning the issue of women’s political participation.
