- Description
- An anti-homosexuality law circulating in the Ugandan parliament generated between 2009 and 2014 a global discussion about queer rights. The book explores the afterlives of colonialism and the queer futures enabled by it in Uganda, India, and Britain. It describes the international relations that anticipated and followed the Anti Homosexuality Act, explores the dialectic produced by two opposed statements that mark queer postcolonial disagreements and reveals how queerness mutates in different configurations of power.

- Description
- This book confronts the historic devaluation of lesbian-feminist politics within Anglo-American discourse and ignites a transnational and transgenerational discussion regarding the relevance of lesbian feminisms in today’s world. The writers consider the wider place of lesbian feminisms within queer theory, post-colonial feminism and the movement for LGBT rights. They consider how lesbian feminisms can contribute to discussions on intersectionality, engage with trans activism and the need for trans-inclusion, to ultimately show how lesbian feminisms can offer a transformative approach to today’s sexual and gender politics.

- Description
- This book sets a new agenda for considering sexualities and genders, by focusing on the lives of people who are bisexual or who have other identities that are not heterosexual, lesbian or gay, in an international context. .What are bisexual people's lived experiences? How can these be understood using social and political theories? What are the implications of bisexuality for future theorising and research? Monro looks at themes including sex and relationships, community, the commodification of bisexuality, and activism. The book also shows how understandings of bisexuality can usefully inform the social sciences in areas such as identity construction, social inequalities, postcolonial relations, and citizenship.

- Description
- Gloria Wekker explores a central paradox of Dutch culture: the passionate denial of racial discrimination and colonial violence coexisting alongside aggressive racism and xenophobia. Accessing a cultural archive built over 400 years of Dutch colonial rule, Wekker fundamentally challenges Dutch racial exceptionalism by undermining the dominant narrative of the Netherlands as a 'gentle' and 'ethical' nation. Wekker analyzes the Dutch media's portrayal of black women and men, the failure to grasp race in the Dutch academy, contemporary conservative politics and the controversy surrounding the folkloric character Black Pete, showing how the denial of racism and the expression of innocence safeguards white privilege.
