- Description
- Interdisciplinary reader demonstrates how widely feminist thinking has spread, how deeply it has shaken settled assumptions in the disciplines and how much new light it throws on contemporary controversies. This volume offers not only a reference manual to what we now know about gender relations as social forces but also gives impetus to future thinking in imaginative and utopian ways about questions of gender, power and knowledge. Each chapter explores contemporary questions and dilemmas in feminist theory and research, assessing the impacts of past research and feminist actions. Leading scholars discuss such topics as the state of women's and gender studies, feminist epistemology, cultural representations, globalization and the state, families, and work.

- Description
- This book develops an account of the lived experience of racialized gender formation as it exists on this planet. It analyzes sensations: the chill of winter, the feeling of being immersed in water, and a stifling sense of containment. Through this analysis in settler colonial and colonial contexts, in twentieth-century North America and Africa, Clare shows how sensation is unevenly distributed within social worlds and productive of racial, national, and gendered subjectivities.

- Description
- In this volume contributors critique theorists' reliance on natural rights doctrine and utilitarianism, which, they suggest, have a masculine bias. They argue for ethical attentiveness and sympathy in our relationships with animals and propose a link between the continuing subjugation of women and the human domination of nature. Beginning with the earliest articulation of the idea in the mid-1980s and continuing to the theory's most recent revisions, this volume presents the most complete portrait of the evolution of the feminist-care tradition., reviewing a previous edition or volume

- Description
- Multispecies feminist theorist Haraway offers new ways to reconfigure our relations to the earth and all its inhabitants. She refers to our epoch as the Anthropocene, preferring to conceptualize it as what she calls the Chthulucene, as it more fully describes our epoch as one in which the human and nonhuman are inextricably linked in tentacular practices. The Chthulucene requires sym-poiesis or self-making. Learning to stay with the trouble of living and dying together on a damaged earth will prove more conducive to the kind of thinking that would provide the means to building more livable futures.

- A Companion to Gender Studies presents a comprehensive vision of its field, and its new directions. It is designed to demonstrate in action the rich interplay between gender and other markers of social position and (dis)privilege, such as race, class, ethnicity, and nationality.
