The photographs of Ilse Schrama document images and icons of holy women in East German churches. Astrid Utpatel-Hartwig added texts on the lives or legends of the holy women. The aim of the book is to put the female images of popular worship in the foreground, to compensate for the male dominated concepts of official preaching. Descriptions of places and church interiors make that the images and icons can be retraced by a traveler.
