- Description
- This book positions the female fighter as a kind of mirror to contemporary conversations on gender, violence and power. Though the female fighter is often seen as an abnormality and women were often viewed as victims or weak-willed wives, women make up nearly 30% of militant movements worldwide. The book consists of narratives of female fighters from Sri Lanka, Eritrea, Pakistan, and Colombia. Through these conversations, the author adapts her assumptions about the position of these women in relation to power. Erasing the female fighter from narratives on gender and power is both dangerous and anti-feminist, she argues. She advocates a more nuanced understanding of women who choose violence.
