- Description
- This book portrays the life and death of Honduran environmentalist and human rights activist Berta Cáceres. In 2015 she won the Goldman Prize for leading a campaign to stop construction of a hydroelectric dam on a river, which was sacred to her indigenous Lenca community. Less than a year later she was killed. The author attended the 2018 trial, where state security officials, employees of the dam company and hired hitmen were found guilty of murder. Based on several interviews, confidential filings and corporate documents, she sketches the struggle and threats Cáceres faced.
