- Description
- The essays in this volume seek to introduce a level of theoretical analysis by means of close readings of situations in which women are given or denied authority in ritual and interpretive contexts. This approach encompasses not only how women are represented, but also particular strategies of debate about women, how women are depicted as negotiating certain kinds of authority: and how women might resist traditional authority in specific colonial and post colonial situations.

- Description
- This report contains texts of the participants in the National consultation on Women's Right to Choose If, When and Whom to Marry, which was held on march 22-24, 2003 at La Place Park Inn, Lucknow, India. Provisions of the Indian consitution regarding non-discrimination on the basis of sex, equal protection of the law, equality before the law and the protection of life and personal liberty, safeguard this right. In India, despite the framework of national and international legal protection, the right to decide if, when and whom to marry is not enforced in practice. It was in this context that the National Consultation was held.

- Description
- Collection of twelve essays from feminist historians from around the world to look at how women have always found ways to challenge or fight inequalities and hierarchies as individuals, in international women’s organizations, as political leaders, and in global forums such as the United Nations. Part one brings together four essays about organized women’s activism across borders. The chapters in part two focus on the variety of women’s activism and explore women’s activism in different national and political contexts. And part three explores the changing relationships and inequalities among women. - Description
- Gender, trafficking, and slavery examines the operations of trafficking and other kinds of 'modern-day' slavery, from a gender perspective. It explores the relationships between gender, poverty, conflict, and globalisation that are driving today's slave trade. The authors provide an overview of what trafficking and slavery are, their magnitude, and their complexity. They analyse and assess the attempts of development and human rights organisations to support those at risk, to create alternative livelihood options for them and to help those who escape to rebuild their lives.
