- Description
- Collection of papers on the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. The Council of Europe Convention (the Istanbul Convention) contains provisions specific to asylum-seeking and refugee women in order to prevent and combat all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence. The publication aims to support policy makers, border and immigration officials and practitioners with the implementation of Articles 60 (Gender-based asylum claims) and 61 (Non-refoulement) of the Istanbul Convention. The subjects include among others definitions, information and examples of gender-based violence that may be recognised as forms of persecution or other serious harm and how to ensure that a gender-sensitive interpretation is given to each of the convention grounds.

- Description
- This report of GREVIO evaluates laws and policies on violence against women in the Netherlands. It describes different measures that have been taken to build a set of policies and services to help victims of domestic violence. The report argues that, under the Istanbul Convention, all forms of violence against women require a holistic approach in the form of prevention, protection of victims and prosecution. It notes that sexual assault, rape, forced marriage and other forms of violence against women are less prominently addressed through law and policy - and even less so on the basis of a gendered approach. The Istanbul Convention requires a gendered understanding of rape to better capture the many ways in which women experience sexual violence - most of which do not involve force, threat or coercion.

- Description
- However Mongolia guarantees equality of men and women through its national laws and international treaties it is signatory to, social and economic conditions and the legal framework for women's de facto enjoyment of equal rights remain inadequate. A significant number of laws including the Civil Code, Criminal Code, Labour Code, Law on combating pornography and Media freedom law contain paternatlistic and superficial provisions, which are not in line with the international standards on women's rights and principles of gender equality.

- Description
- The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) articulates what has now become a global norm. CEDAW establishes the moral, civic, and political equality of women: women's right to be free from discrimination and violence: and the responsibility of governments to take positive action to achieve these goals. The United States is not among the 187 countries that have ratified the treaty. To explain why the United States has not ratified CEDAW, this book highlights the emergence of the treaty in the context of the Cold War, the deeply partisan nature of women's rights issues in the United States, and basic disagreements about how human rights treaties work.
