- Description
- This UN policy brief focuses on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender equality and women's rights. It looks at four thematic areas: economy, health, unpaid care work and gender-based violence. .The economic impacts of the pandemic are especially felt by women and girls who are earning and saving less, having insecure jobs or living near to poverty. The health of women is impacted by the reallocation of resources and priorities, including sexual and reproductive health services. The report states that unpaid care work, mainly performed by women, has increased with children staying at home and older persons who need more help. Besides, as a consequence of the 'lockdown' many women experience domestic violence. Suggestions for national policies imply including women and women’s organizations in all COVID-19 decision making processes, realizing an inclusive care economy and designing socio-economic plans with focus on women and girls.

- Description
- This report assesses potential consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak on women and on gender equality in Europe. It describes the risks of the crisis, including increasing care work for women, domestic violence against women and unequal representation of men and women in decision-making processes. Besides these negative effects, the COVID-19 crisis also created some new opportunities for a more .gender-neutral distribution of work. For example, teleworking men who share unpaid work with their partners. The authors conclude with policy recommendations to minimize the damages and realize potential benefits of the crisis on the equality between men and women in Europe.

- Description
- Across several social, economic, and political dimensions, women and girls are disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 crisis because of their sex. This working paper presents indicators for two dashboards, which give an overview of gender inequalities from the COVID-19 crisis. The first dashboard covers a set of indicators on capabilities at risk. The first set of indicators points to women's health and risk factors by examining women's presence in the health sector, access to sexual and reproductive health and their risk of underlying cardiovascular conditions. The second set of indicators explores women's presence in the formal and informal economy. The second dashboard offers indicators regarding safe space at the household level, time spent on unpaid domestic and care work, child marriage and intimate partner violence. It also covers indicators about women's representation in responding to the crisis through for example access to technology, education and political participation.

- Description
- This report looks at progress towards gender parity and equality in education from early childhood to adulthood since the adoption of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The report, published on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, also shows where progress staggered and where difficulties might increase by the COVID-19 pandemic. It draws attention to good policies and practices to protect the right to education for all countries but also to areas that need attention in the current health crisis. Recommended is to focus on making schools more inclusive for all students, regardless of their background, ability or identity, requiring better sanitation facilities in schools, greater attention to school-related gender-based violence and policies encouraging pregnant girls to go back to school.

- Description
- We are living in a time of crisis which has cascaded through society. Financial crisis has led to an economic crisis of recession and unemployment: an ensuing fiscal crisis over government deficits and austerity has led to a political crisis which threatens to become a democratic crisis. Borne unevenly, the effects of the crisis are exacerbating class and gender inequalities. The author offers an alternative framework within which to theorize crisis, drawing on complexity science and situating this within the wider field of study of risk, disaster and catastrophe. In doing so, she offers a critique and revision of the social science needed to understand the crisis.
