The last three essays in the volume focus on Spain's 'double minorities' : Catalan women writers.

- The authors argue that Sinclair, pseudonym of Mary Amelia St. Clair (1862-1946), embodied the contradictions of her era: both Victorian and modern time. By examining Sinclair's writings they engage with the cultural and literary phenomena Sinclair herself criqued and influenced: the evolving literary marketplace, changing sexual and social mores, developments in the fields of psychology, the women's suffrage movement, and World War I. Through her writing Sinclair was connected with authors such as James Joyce, Ezra Pound, Ford Madox Ford, Charlotte Mew and Dorothy Richardson.

- Description
- Selected collection of supernatural stories by British female writers from the second half of the nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Some of the authors included in this volume are Charlotte Perkins Gillman, Mary Wilkins Freeman, Olive Schreiner, Olivia Howard Dunbar and Mary Austin. Women at that time often wrote supernatural stories such as about spiritualism, cosmic horror and dark metaphors. They often introduced social commentary into their works, like the role of women and class struggles. Many women included in this book were involved in the suffragette or labor reform movement. As the work as a domestic was one of the few options for women from the lower classes, several stories were told from either the domestics in a wealthy household or the very poor viewpoint. Many of these women took up writing out of financial need and/or wrote under pseudonyms, using their married name or without any name.

- Description
- Focusing on women's writing of the last two centuries, the contributors to this volume trace the intricate relationship between food and body image for women. Ranging over a variety of genres, including novels, culinary memoirs, and essays, they explore works by a diverse group of writers, including Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Toni Morrison, Tsitsi Dangarembga, and Jeanette Winterson, as well as non literary documents as discussions of Queen Victoria's appetite and news coverage of suffragettes' hunger strikes. In addressing works by Hispanic, African, African American, Jewish, and lesbian writers, the book explodes the myth that only white, privileged, and heterosexual women are concerned with body image, and shows the many cultural contexts in which food and cooking are important in women's literature.
