- Description
- This study draws on diaries, letters and interviews of New Zealand military nurses who worked in South Africa from 1899 to 1902, in many wars from 1914 to 1918, in Spain during the Civil War and in a variety of countries from 1939 to 1948. The author examines their personal stories in order to show how they not only faced physical danger and suffer illness and exhaustion, but also fought male prejudice and struggled for recognition of their status.
