- Description
- This study examines the characteristics and impacts of sexual violence against men and boys and assesses the availability and accessibility of services for male survivors in refugee settings. Qualitative data were collected from three populations: Rohingya refugees from Myanmar living in Bangladesh, refugees and migrants who traveled through Libya and living in Italy and refugees from the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and South Sudan living in Kenya. The interviewees included refugees focus groups as well as frontline aid workers and human rights experts. . .One of the results indicate that groups vulnerable to sexual victimization included adolescent boys, young men, persons with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics and prisoners. The study recommends further investigation to better capture the impacts of sexual violence against men and boys in conflict and displacement and to meet the needs of survivors of all genders.
