- Description
- Wikan shows how an excessive respect for 'their' culture has been part of the problems of marginalization, discrimination, and increasing segregation of many non-Western immigrants in Europe. Culture has become a new concept of race, sustaining ethnic identity politics that subvert human rights - especially for women and children. Fearful of being considered racist, state agencies have sacrificed freedom and equality in the name of culture.

- Description
- Book about the colonial history from a whiteness studies perspective. It focuses on the experiences and perceptions of colonisers and the way they described their identities in Africa. The transcolonial approach is based on egodocuments from Belgian, German and Swedish men and women who migrated to Central Africa for several reasons such as social betterment or new gender roles. The author presents how colonisers constructed their whiteness related to people of lower status in everyday situations, connected tot friendships, gender and food.
