- Description
- This volume analyzes representations of the mother in francophone post-2000 literature and films in North America. Contributors reexamine the 'horrible mother' paradigm to broaden the understanding of mothering beyond traditional ideology (e.g. the working multitasking mother, the absent mother and the liberated mother). The chapters focus on the predominant theme of the mother in order to reassess questions of for example identity, guilt, heteronormativity and childlesness. They refer to works of writers or filmmakers such as Nelly Arcan, Grégoire Chabot, Marguerite Andersen and Xavier Dolan.
