- To understand the impact of COVID-19 on girls and young women, as well as talking to girls in lockdown, Plan International has re-examined four previous studies of crises to try and get a clearer picture of the insecurity and vulnerability facing girls now. They have drawn specific lessons from their study of the Ebola crisis of 2014-2015 in West Africa where school closures and other measures to limit movement had damaging long-term effects on children and particularly girls.

- Description
- The study explores a range of factors that make children more vulnerable to violence and suggests strategies for ending violence against children. As part of this analysis the study recognises that virtually all forms of violence are linked to entrenched gender roles and inequalities, and that the violation of the rights of children is closely linked to the status of women. This publication was produced as part of the follow-up to the United Nations study on violence against children, 2007.

- Description
- This is the eighth in the annual ‘Because I am a Girl’ report series, which assesses the current state of the world’s girls. While women and children are recognised in policy and planning, girls’ needs and rights are often ignored. The reports provide evidence, including the voices of girls themselves, as to why they need to be treated differently from boys and adult women. They also use information from primary research, in particular a small study set up in 2006 following 142 girls from nine countries.

- Description
- 'An increasing majority of refugees live in cities and they face gender-based violence risks as a result of unmet needs and intersecting oppressions based on gender, race, sexual orientation, and disability among others. .A deeper understanding of the nuances and complexities of urban risks is essential to addressing violence and bridging the protection gaps affecting marginalized groups who have been traditionally overlooked in humanitarian response. Protecting refugees with heightened risks – women, adolescent girls, LGBTI individuals, persons with disabilities, sex workers and male survivors of sexual violence – requires innovative, tailored programming and outreach. This new reality necessitates a monumental shift in humanitarian response, requiring policy makers, donors, and practitioners to develop new programming that addresses the protection concerns of refugees in urban contexts in Quito, Ecuador: Beirut, Lebanon: Kampala, Uganda: and Delhi and India.'

- Report in which is shown that child marriage is an accepted cultural practice in many countries. The Forum on Marriage and the Rights of Women and Girls argues that although widely socially sanctioned, early marriage does constitute sexual exploitation of young girls who are forced into sexual relations below the legal age of consent. The Forum believes that child marriage falls through the international net of legislative measures introduced and signed up to by many countries in order to protect children.
