Authors report on the prevalence of HIV infection among female streetworking prostitutes in Glasgow and on the extent of injecting drug use among these women. Authors also estimate the size of the female streetworking prostitute population in Glasgow and the total number of HIV positive female prostitutes working on the streets in the city.
In Europe, by the end of 1986, 15% of AIDS cases were in intravenous drug users. This percentage had increased considerably in Europe from only 5% in June 1985. The proportion of intravenous drug users out of the total of reported AIDS cases varies greatly (0-51%) between different countries in Europe.
