- Description
- This report gives a picture of where women stand today and how they have progressed in the world of work over the last 20 years, and of the root causes of inequalities and how they should be tackled based on what works and the guidance provided by international labour standards. It shows that, despite some encouraging advances, major gender gaps at work remain. Increasing gender parity in educational attainment does not prevent women from being concentrated in middle to lower-paid occupations that reflect traditional gender stereotypes and beliefs about women’s and men’s aspirations and capabilities.

- Description
- This report aims to quantify the existence and magnitude of harmful gender-based stereotypes and gender bias. The pilot study focused on 9 areas: barriers to accessing education and health care rights ; barriers at the household level: personal decisions, marriage and family life, safety and violence ; barriers at work and employment, access to property and control of personal finances ; barriers by society: safety in public and the workplace, leadership and participation. The following ten countries were researched: Colombia, India, Japan, Kenya, Nigeria, The Philippines, Sweden, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and United States.
- The study was developed by UN Women in partnership with private sector organizations AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, Kantar, Procter & Gamble and Unilever, all members of Unstereotype Alliance, in the context of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The report serves as an evidence-based instrument that demonstrates how leveraging attitudinal change can be used as a critical tactic towards advancing gender equality, the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and notably, SDG-5, on achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

- Description
- 'This Eurobarometer Survey seeks to measure Europeans' perceptions of gender inequalities within their own country: how widespread inequalities between women and men are, and whether the situation has improved or worsened compared with ten years ago: whether men or women are more likely to experience such .discrimination among particular groups of people (young, old, people with disabilities, migrants, single parents, and working parents with young children): and the areas of life (e.g. work, school, media, politics) where gender stereotypes are deemed to be most prevalent. It also examines Europeans’ general attitudes towards gender equality and, more specifically, the role of women in the workplace and the role of men at home. In .terms of tackling gender inequalities, the survey provides measures on Europeans’ opinions on which organisations have contributed most over the last ten years: whether this should be an EU priority: which areas should be dealt with most urgently: and what measures are considered to be the most effective at increasing the number of women in the workplace, and increasing the amount of time men spend on home care activities. .Finally, the survey explores the issue of violence against women – what Europeans think this encompasses and which specific forms of such violence the EU should focus its efforts on.'

- Description
- 'This report shows that routes into and out of poverty or social exclusion differ for women and men. Due to existing gender inequalities in public and private life, women are continually at a higher risk of poverty across the EU. Gender roles, stereotypes and structural inequalities weaken women’s opportunities in the labour market and devalue their work. These obstacles mean that women, especially lone mothers, struggle between work and private life much more than men. Almost every second lone mother across the EU is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. In general, women’s economic independence shrinks with the arrival of each child. This is not only harming societies, families or mothers, but there is also a high risk that children will grow up in poverty and have poorer chances for education and success in their own future life.'
