- Description
- The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is one of the most important human rights tools ever created. Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly, it is often described as an international bill of rights for women. These essays and personal reflections, from individuals who have served on the committee that monitors CEDAW, introduce readers to the issues and the activism. .Only a handful of countries have refused to ratify CEDAW: the United States is the only industrialized country among them. This book reveals the profound impact the convention has had on women's lives around the world and its potential to affect American women. With examples and moving reminiscences from Japan to Tunisia to the Caribbean and beyond, this collection addresses CEDAW's impact on women in Islam, labor markets, migration, violence against women, human trafficking, women in politics, and more.

- Description
- This dissertation will answer the following central questions: Does trafficking in women violate human rights, as established by the international human rights instruments, of women victims of trafficking? If so which are the human rights that are affected and violated during the practice of trafficking? Who are the relevant actors that violate those rights: state and or private parties and how those violations can be addressed under the International Human Rights Law - vertical/horizontal application of human rights: which are the relevant state obligations - positive/negative in connection to those violations: and which strategies and laws have to be identified on a national level in relation to trafficking, in terms of prevention, protection and prosecution based on the human rights obligations of States? To that end, this dissertation will try to elaborate a human rights perspective to trafficking in women as an additional avenue in the overall fight against trafficking in women. Dissertation Law.
