- Description
- Carlson compares the dynasty of the writers Wollstonecraft, Godwin and Shelley to a family. Their works and lives influence each other. The book includes chapters on the writers' efforts to rewrite the sentiments and literary conventions associated with family life, their sentiments and opinions on life and death, their embrace of fancy, the texts they wrote on and for children. The political theories and novels of Wollstonecraft and Godwin are considered to reform love to make it more conductive to the autonomy of women and men. With an epilogue 'On Percy's case'.

- Description

- Description
- The explosion in publishing by women in Mexico since the 1980s is called the 'boom feminino'. Many of the writers take an ambivalent position on processes of modernisation. This book uses a variety of critical approaches within a feminist framework to examine ambivalent positions of the Mexican authors and the persons or characters they describe. It also examines aspects of other players in the literary process like publishing houses, critics and readers. The author offers close readings of work by Silvia Molina, Sara Sefchovich, Susana Págano, Brianda Domecq, Guadelupe Loaeza and Rosamaría Roffiel and considers the reaction to and reception of best-selling author Angeles Mastretta.

- Description
- This book is an exploration of the European artistic and intellectual networks in which the work of the American writer Gertrude Stein (1874-1946) was first developed and circulated. Along the way, the book investigates the European contexts of Stein's writing, how her own work intersected with European thought, including phenomenology and the work of Henri Bergson, and ultimately how it was received by scholars and artists across the continent.

- Description
- The author examines motherhood and female self-realization in feminist discourse and Joyce Carol Oates’s recent fiction. While the first and second wave of feminism repudiated motherhood, the third wave claimed the right to enjoy it. The present fourth wave is now reviving the reservations about motherhood of the first two waves. This book demonstrates how Oates’s writing reflects these shifts and how Oates takes up and transforms feminist standpoints in her work without writing conventional feminist literature.
