- Although European policy initiatives to advance the position of women in Academia have proliferated, both at national and EU levels, serious inequities of many kinds remain. This situation is exposed and investigated in this book, which presents reports and discussions from a conference held at the Law Faculty of Lund University in December 2004. - This collection provides an analysis of the current use of quota strategies for resolving the pressing issue of gender inequality, and the lack of female representation on corporate boards. Focusing on sixteen European countries, the contributors explore the current situation in relation to women on boards debates and approaches taken. They include reflections from stakeholders, such as politicians, practitioners and policy-makers. This first volume focuses on eight European countries - Norway, Spain, Iceland, France, Belgium, the Neteherlands, Germany, and Italy - having adopted quotas.
